[Class 1 (i)] A gas-detecting apparatus comprises a number of separable tubular elements E each containing a granular catalyst acting on the gas to be detected, and thermopiles interposed between the adjacent ends of some or all of the elements. Each thermopile comprises an annular disc G of insulating material clamped between the ends of adjacent tubular elements, carrying a thermocouple projecting into the granular material. The elements are centrally situated in an outer casing A.
