Abstract
567,707. Valves. STEVENS, A. H. (Dill Manufacturing Co.). Dec. 23, 1942, No. 18296. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 26, 1943.] [Class 135] A valve stem for inflatable rubber articles comprises an inner portion of hard mouldable material, such as hard vulcanized rubber, provided with an internally-threaded metal sleeve to receive the valve insides and vulcanized within an outer part comprising integral stem and base portions. In the form shown in the Figure, both the inner part 12 and the stem 11 are outwardly tapered and the partly cured inner part is moulded round a steel or other metal member 15. The member 15 is internally threaded and formed with a conical shoulder 16a to receive the usual valve insides and has a reduced lower end provided with external ribs adapted to be embedded in the material of the inner part. The insert has a shoulder flush with the end of the stem adapted to be engaged by a dust cap screwed onto the end of the insert. A shoulder 21 is formed at the lower end of the insert which may form an abutment for the valve spring. In a modification, the outer surface of the insert is made cylindrical. The lower end of the member 15 may merely butt against a shoulder on the insert. Specification 538,549 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes two further modifications, in one of which the conical shoulder and internal threads are moulded in the inner part and in the other the threads are moulded in the inner part while the conical part is formed in a metal ring. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted:
