Abstract

567,481. Mills ; separators, VARCOE, R. J. Oct. 1, 1943, No. 16138. [Classes 59 and 117] A mill for removing nails &c. from clay comprises two inter-engaging combs, one of which is fixed and comprises fingers held non-rotatably on a shaft and spaced apart by collars, while the other is rotatable, being formed by a number of blades mounted on a shaft and spaced apart so that they may pass between the fixed fingers which are of such a length that their free ends are always located between adjacent blades. The fingers 5 are carried on a shaft 4 and rest against a stop-bar 6. They project between blades 17 separated by collars 28 and mounted on a rotatable shaft 15 driven through a slip coupling. The blades have one curved edge 27 and one straight one 23 with the latter of which the end 25 makes an obtuse angle. The combs are carried in a casing having sloping entering sides 19, 30. The upper surfaces of some of the fingers may be shaped as shown at 29.
