Abstract
567,051. Gas burner igniters. POWNER, F. July 21, 1943, No. 11882. [Cla,ss 75 (iii)] A lighter for gas burners comprises two arms 10, 11 hinged together at 12, the arm 10 carrying at one end a serrated striking surface 14, such as a piece of a file 16, and the arm 11 carrying an openended tubular holder 16 containing a flint 17 pressed into contact with the striking sur. face by a preferably looped spring 18 secured to an abutment 19 on the arm 11. Sparks for igniting gas jets are produced by drawing the opposite ends of the arms together by means of a hand grip 10a and thumb piece 11a against the resistance of a spring 20 and then releasing the thumb piece 11a. Stops 21, 22 limit the movements of the arms. The striking surface 14 may have bevelled edges over which the sides of its housing 15 are bent and may be reversible.
