Abstract

566,377. Laminated springs. WOODHEAD & SONS, Ltd., J., and KYLE, A. G. Oct. 31, 1942, No. 15347. Drawings to Specification. [Class 108 (iii)] In order to protect a laminated spring from corrosion, each spring plate, or the spring as a whole, with or without the usual clips, is enveloped with a covering of an elastic plastic composition, e.g. a nitro-cellulose, a cellulose acetate, or a casein product, all of which are of the non-thermo-setting kind, or a vinyl ester product, such as polyvinyl chloride, or a neoprene product. The material may be applied to a spring, or to a plate thereof, in the form of gaiters having the meeting edges laced or sealed together with a solution of the material or otherwise connected, or the material may be fashioned into sleeves adapted to be pulled over the spring from each end. Other methods include painting or spraying with a solution of the material or wrapping the spring with material of tape form and sealing the overlapping edges by spraying or painting them with a solution of the material. According to the Provisional Specification, the surfaces of the spring may be recessed, grooved, corrugated, roughened or otherwise formed to enable'the plastic composition to key therewith. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 219,367, 280,471, [both in Class 108 (iii)], and 388,257, and U.S.A. Specification 1,990,802.
