Abstract

565,672. Driving belts. STEPHENS BELTING CO., Ltd., and STEPHENS, E. H. May 18, 1943, No. 13553. [Class 80 (i)] Consists in means for facilitating the assembly and dismantling of the links of a link belt. Each link a of leather, rubber, woven fabric or other material is of tapered form and has three holes b of which the one near the narrow end is circular, the others being elongated. The links are secured together by rivets d, each of which consists of a length of steel or other wire of half-round or other suitable section, folded on itself to form a T-shaped member, Fig. 3, with a head h. Prior to insertion of the rivet in the circular hole b, a thin metal washer g is slipped over the rivet stem ; the rivet is then inserted and another metal washer e is secured to the end of the rivet by hammering or welding. The washer g is then pressed into the upper side of the link. A leather or other flexible washer f may be inserted between the washer e and the link. Each rivet d is so secured to its link that, after insertion through the elongated holes of the other links, it may be rotated to bring its head across these holes.
