[Class 44] A padlock of the kind in which the shackle 2 is slidably and pivotally mounted in the case 1, has a spring-urged locking disc 3 rotatably guided in the case by a flange 4. The disc is suitably mutilated so that, inter alia, a portion of the flange engages a notch 5 in the short arm of the shackle, the end of the arm being bevelled so that engagement is automatic when the shackle is pushed home. The disc 3 has ribs 10 between which is slidably guided a spring-shot bolt 11 carried by the disc, the bolt having a flange 12 at one end and an inclined tail rib 16 at the other adapted to engage a corresponding seat 15 in the long arm of the shackle and abut. behind a terminal collar 14. The inclination of rib and seat allows automatic engagement of the bolt under spring action. The long 'arm of the shackle is guided in the rim of the casing and a fixed bridge piece 8 and is surrounded by a torsion and compression spring 13 which ejects the shackle and then rotates it when the lock is released.' The bridge piece carries a spring 6 having one arm 6a bearing against an inturned portion 9 of the disc flange and another arm 6b bearing against flange 12 of the bolt to urge disc and bolt into engagement with the shackle. A key-barrel 17 is rotatably mounted in the casing wall and disc, passing through a slot in the bolt. The aperture 18 in the disc through which the barrel passes has a sector-shaped enlargement to allow lost motion between key and disc so that the key bit first withdraws the bolt and then rocks the disc to release position.
