Abstract
A resinous condensation product is prepared by heating together formaldehyde and benzyl sulphamide. Aldehydes specified are acetaldehyde, propionaldehyde, butyraldehyde, acrolein, methacrolein, crotonaldehyde, benzaldehyde, furfural, and include compounds engendering aldehydes, e.g. paraformaldehyde, hexamethylene tetramine or methylol-ureas, thioureas and iminoureas, amino diazines, amino triazines or amino pentadiazines. The reaction may be carried out in the presence of phenols, aminophenols, ketones, alcohols, nitriles, proteins, amido, imido, amino and imino compounds and sulphonamides. Specifically mentioned are the phenols described in Specification 544,052, the amino - triazines described in Specifications 16396/41 and 10615/42 (both as open to inspection under Sect. 91) and ureas, thioureas and their derivatives. Catalysts such as those described in Specifications 9244/41 and 10917/41 (both as p open to inspection under Sect. 91) may be used to accelerate curing. The product may be mixed with other synthetic resins, e.g. aminoplasts and phenol-aldehyde resins as a plasticizer. Dyes, pigments, mould lubricants, e.g. zinc stearate, fillers, e.g. wood flour, glass fibres, asbestos, mineral wool, mica, cloth cuttings and a -cellulose flock may be added to the resin to form moulding compositions. Other special additions include hydrolysed wood products, lignin, proteins, phenol-aldehyde resins, alkyl resins, water - soluble cellulose derivatives, shellac, rosin and polyvinyl esters and acetate. The product may be used for making coating composition, laminated articles and impregnating textiles. Examples (2) and (5) heating benzoyl sulphamide with a partial condensation product of urea or melamine and formaldehyde; (4) and (8) heating a benzyl sulphamide resin with a urea- or melamine-formaldehyde partial condensation product.
