Abstract

560,414. Expansible formers for use in making leather tyres &c. LEVY, B. Oct. 26, 1942, No. 15004. [Class 87 (ii)] In an expansible former of the type having peripheral sections 1, 2, each connected by a screw 5, 6 to a centrally-disposed operating mechanism A adapted to move the sections radially outwardly and inwardly, the alternate sections 1 are smaller than the sections 2 and have straight ends B, C, inclined convergently outwards. The screws 5, 6 are threaded in nuts 7 secured to the sections and carry bevel gears 16 which mesh with an annular bevel gear 13 carried by a shaft 14 which is rotated by a hand-wheel. The threads 5 are quicker than the threads 6, so that the sections 1 retract more quickly than the sections 2. Guide-rods 8 prevent rotation of the sections. The sections may be readily detached from the nuts 7 and replaced by other sections. The device is mounted on a wall.
