Abstract
559,362. Extracting essential oils; dewaxing oils. CARBIDE & CARBON CHEMICALS CORPORATION. Feb. 17, 1942, Nos. 2097 and 2098. Convention date, March 18, 1941. [Class 91] [Also in Group IV] Glyoxal tetra-acetals which may be used for the extraction of essential oils or for removing wax from hydrocarbons, are produced by reacting glyoxal with an alcohol or a mono-ether of a glycol and removing water continuously. The alcohol may be aliphatic or aromatic and the glycol ether may be an ether of an aliphatic or aromatic alcohol or of a phenol, a number of these being listed. The glyoxal may be used in the form of. a polymer. Examples describe the production O tetra-acetals from 2-ethyl hexanol, butanol, ethylene, chlorhydrin, methanol, glycol monomethyl ether, and glycol monobutyl ether.
