(Class 38 (i)] A conductor unit 12 for a surface wiring system comprises an elongated three-sided body 120 with transverse ribs 122, one of which defines a socket complementary to a plug element 121 at the opposite end, and grooves in these ribs to accommodate two bare rigid conductors 130. These are preferably tubular and swaged to form a conical plug at one end ; they are retained by a cover-member 132, having a longitudinal central rib 133 to separate them and prevent " carbon tracking," and having also pockets 136 engaged by flattened portions 130b of the conductors to resist their longitudinal movement. Preferably body and cover are of moulded plastic material. A similar construction 14 provides outlets, the body being formed with pairs of slots to accommodate the blades of a plug which enter pockets, defined by a pair of transverse ribs 22 and a central wall, to engage spring contacts 39 brazed &c. to the flattened portions of the conductors and bearing with their outer ends against the central wall ; the blades pass on the outside of the conductors into recesses in the cover member. Body and cover member are secured together about the conductors by machine screws passing through bosses in the central rib of the latter into tapped holes in bosses in body. When adjacent sections have been coupled they are secured together by a machine screw engaging a nut in a hexagonal recess 43 in the plug element of the body. A single screw 15 passes through body and cover of an outlet section 14 into the studding 16 of a wall and additional fastening means may be provided consisting of a plate 18 with wings 18a adapted to be held between skirting-board 10 and wall and having either (a) lug 18h to engage in slots formed between lateral projections 46 on the cover and recesses 47 on the side walls of the body, or (b) keyhole slots to engage the heads of screws securing the cover to the body. A modified arrangement comprises only outlet fittings equal in length to a conductor and outlet fitting combined.
