556,214. Ticket-issuing machines. BELL PUNCH CO., Ltd. (Helsel, R. H.). Jan. 29, 1942, No. 1232. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, April 12, 1943.] [Class 106 (iii)] A ticket issuing machine comprises means for feeding and guiding a strip, and is provided with a controlling element which at a single manipulation issues one or more tickets at a single operation according to the position of a selectively positionable element on a cyclically movable member, making only a partial cycle during the issue of a single ticket, the positionable element being arranged to disengage a clutch either at the end of a single revolution or at the end of a plurality of revolutions thereof. The machine illustrated can issue one or two tickets according to whether pin 90 is adjacent or diametrically opposite to pin 86, depending on the position of screw 92 in slot 94. For single-length tickets; screw 92 is set as shown in Fig. 1, the adiustment being effected when the top plate of the machine, which may comprise a number of similar units, is removed. Depression of key 110 lifts link 98 to free its shoulder 102 from bar 104 and link 98 snaps to the left under spring action to rock lever 20 clockwise and free pin 16, allowing segment 12 pivoted on mutilated gear 8 to move outwards into mesh with pinion 6. At the same time, pin 100 rocks lever 130 to close switch 132 and pinion 6, on a shaft common to all the units, begins to rotate. Cam 162 acts on roller 160 and platen 164 to press the ticket strip against an ink ribbon backed by type 178 and dating head 180. The high portion of disc 40, Fig. 3 (not shown) then grips the strip against disc 46 to advance it past the knives 58, 60, spring-pressed finger 152 riding on the strip until it enters a preformed hole, at which time the feed discs release the strip and finger 152 is pulled back by its spring to properly align the strip with the knives. Meanwhile, pin 90 on carrier member 88, which rotates at half the speed of gear 8 rocks lever 20 which moves into the path of pin 16 and by pushing pin 100 to the right, releases lever 130, motor switch 132 being maintained by lever 136 controlled by cam 15. Lever 20 also raises link 76 to engage pusher 62 with knife 60, which is operated when lever 64 is rocked by roller 68, Fig. 3 (not shown), to sever the ticket. Lever 64 is spring-urged into inactive position and is also positively returned by a roller. Pin 16 is detained by lever 20 and lever 136 releases switch 132 to stop the drive to gear 8. During each cycle, eccentric 140 actuates bellcranks 200 and 192 to feed the inking ribbon 172. When key 110 is released before the end of the cycle, link 98 is re-engaged with bar 104 by lever 20, but if key 110 is held depressed, link 98 is returned to the right in raised position but is detained by hook 115, Fig. 5, until key 110 is released and pressed again. The movement of link 98 actuates counter 126. In the next cycle, pin 86 performs the same function as pin 90. Double-length ticket.-Pin 90 is adjacent pin 86, Fig. 4. The action is as above except that carrier member 88 makes a complete revolution before pin 86 rocks lever 20, so that when the first length of strip has been fed, pusher 62 remains in its inactive lower position, and the ticket is not severed. Also pin 16 is not detained after one revolution and gear 8 makes a second rotation. Pin 90 follows pin 86 closely and does not affect the operation. The machine may be coin instead of key-operated.
