[Class 140] [Also in Group X] Laminated glass comprises a bonding layer or layers of transparent, tough, water-proof and elastically compressible plastic having an edge or edges projecting beyond the glass margins. A wind-shield or window may be formed by mounting the glass in a frame which clamps the projecting portion of the plastic layer. As shown in Fig. IV a relatively thick layer of polyvinyl acetal 14 is bonded between thin layers of plate glass 15. Two of these assemblies are secured in a frame comprising a part 17, Fig. II, against which the two scarfed and wrapped projecting layers of plastic 16 by an outer frame 18. The glass edges 15 are spread from the frame by plastic composition 19. In the double clamping arrangement shown in Fig. III the projecting plastic 16 is reduced. in thickness for part of its length and an outer frame 20 is bolted therethrough to inner flanges 21, 22. In the modification shown in Fig. VII the thin plastic layers 29, 30 with the glass layers 26, 27. 28, the outer glass layer being of reduced surface dimension and the plastic layer 29 extending up to or (as shown) beyond the margin of the outer layers. Assemblies of this kind have their glass layers 27, 28, Fig. V, seated on rubber-like gaskets 33 mounted, by a bracket 34 and part 35, an outer frame 36 seating against and compressing both a gasket 37 and the overlapping ends of the seating strips 32. Similar gaskets are employed in a form of mounting corresponding to that shown in Fig. III. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 379,006.
