Abstract

555,771. Valve generating circuits CLIFFORD, F. G. April 28, 1942, No. 5659. [Class 40 (v)] In a generator including a bridge in the feedback path consisting of two resistive ratio arms and two reactive arms one comprising a resistance in series with a capacity and the other a resistance in parallel with a capacity, the bridge includes in one or both ratio arms a non-linear resistance to stabilize the amplitude of the oscillations generated. The arrangement is such that no direct current can flow through the non-linear resistance and the current oscillations fed to the input diagonal of the bridge are in phase with the voltages produced across the output diagonal. Frequency is controlled by simultaneously varying the electrical quantities in each of the reactive bridge arms. When a single stage amplifier is used a transformer is used to obtain the necessary phase shift, Fig. 1 (not shown). Fig. 2 shows a phase changing valve used to provide the phase shift and associated with the bridge elements R1 C1, R2 C2, R4 and L which may be a lamp. For low frequencies the bridge is re-arranged so that the arms R1 Cl and R4 are interchanged to avoid a high resistance in the valve anode circuit. Fig. 4 shows an arrangement in which a buffer output stage is used without substantially altering the gain or phase shift. Specification 510,379 is referred to.
