Abstract
555,096. Automatic exchange systems. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., GILLINGS, C., and MURRAY, L. J. Jan. 30, 1942, No. 1320. [Class 40 (iv)] A system for 20 subscribers, in which a single cross-bar switch is used to connect the calling and called lines to opposite ends of a link circuit, employs two common circuits of which one selects an idle link and controls the connection of the calling line thereto and the other operates in conjunction with a marker to control the connection of the link to the wanted-line. Four links AL ... DL are provided, as shown in Fig. 4, and each link is. individual to a pair of selecting magnets such as DOP, DIP in the cross-bar switch, the holding magnets KH being individual to subscribers' lines. On the initiation of a call, a common switch HFS hunts first for an idle link, connecting up its magnet DOP, and then for the calling line, connecting up its holding magnet KH which serves also as the cut-off relay. Dialled impulses step a 25-point switch DS individual to the link, the first digit 1 or 2 operating a relay AD or BD which advances the switch to the appropriate starting position for the second impulse train. When both digits have been received, a common switch SC hunts for the link and gives it exclusive use of the cross-bar switch. If the switch HFS is in use at this time the subsequent operations are delayed, and similarly while the switch SC is in use the starting circuit for the switch HFS is opened. The selecting magnet DIP operates and if the wanted line is idle test relay SK energizes over the switch DS and connects up the appropriate holding magnet KH also over DS. Ringing takes place and the connection is completed upon reply. If the wanted is busy, or if the first dialled digit is other than 1 or 2, relay G operates to give a busy signal.
