[Class 95] [Also in Group VIII] The adhesion of bitumen deposited from oilin-water type emulsion to stones and the like, e.g. in the preparation of paving materials, is increased by treating the stone &c. surface with an aqueous solution or suspension of a salt of aluminium, tin, nickel, lead, chromium or iron prior to the application of the emulsion. Alkali aluminates such as sodium aluminate are included. The stones may be allowed to dry, and the dried stones may be washed with water, and may also be redried. The emulsion may contain aluminium, tin, zinc, chromium, molybdenum or vanadium compounds. Specification 538,105 is referred to.
