Abstract
554,837. Screening-apparatus. CELLULOSE DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, Ltd., and POTT, C. D. Jan. 16, 1942, No. 705. [Class 46] [Also in Groups II, XXVI and XXX] A screening-apparatus, particularly for paper pulp, comprises an upwardly-inclined reciprocating screen 8 disposed over a bath 10 with the discharge end 13 extending beyond the bath, one or more perforated pipes 22 for spraying the pulp on the screen and an adjustable weir 12 for varying the relative heights of the screen and the liquid in the bath. The screen 8 comprises a number of perforated plates supported by L-shaped side members 24 and spaced cross strips 58. The screen plates, end plates 59 supporting the strips 58 and transverse T-shaped bars 61, supporting filler plates and a central longitudinal interfiltering T-shaped bar 60, Fig. 2, (not shown) are riveted to the members 24. The areas of the screen on which the sprays 23 are directed may be imperforate and one or more cross bars 7 be provided in order to re-dilute the pulp. The end 13 is adjustable by means of bolts passing through cooperating side flanges, and a wedge 5 may be located between adjacent flanges 6. The screen is driven by a shaft 15 having eccentrics 14 engaging in bearings 16 secured thereto and is suspended at the opposite end b resilient blades 17. The shaft 15 is provided at one or both ends with a flywheel 33 having two angularly adjustable balance weights 34 extending below a removable cap 37 and a flange 35. The pulp is fed through an inlet chamber 14, fitted with a paddlewheel 40, and over a weir 11. The pipes 22 are rotatably mounted in supports 9 and provided with a cleaning brush 43 carried by a rod 44 fitted with a handle 47 normally screwed in, or connected by a bayonet joint to a stuffing box 46 so as to compress a packing 54 through an intermediary spring 52.
