Abstract
553,879. Coloured photographic images. TULL, A. G. Dec. 5, 1941, No. 15707. [Class 98 (ii)] A silver halide emulsion layer is weakly dyed with an acid dye during manufacture, and treated after exposure, development, and dye-destruction with a solution of a basic dye to form a dye lake image of normal intensity. The basic dye solution may be applied after exposure but before dye-destruction. Suitable basic dyes are Auramine, Acronol Yellow and Rhodamine, and a suitable acid dye Metanil yellow. In the dye-destruction process, an acid dye is used which permanently stains the layer ; alternatively a precipitating agent is present in the layer. A blue sensitive silver halide emulsion containing Metanil Yellow is after exposure and development processed by the dye-destruction process, e.g. using a thiourea-sulphuric acid dye-destruction bath, or using a calcium hypochlorite-acetic acid bath to destroy the dye at the points free of silver. The layer is treated with a solution of Auramine or Acronol Yellow, which is precipitated imagewise, and the layer is washed. The basic dye may be of a different colour from the acid dye. The images in other layers of multilayer material may be processed by chemical toning.
