Abstract

553,459. Felt. STREET, W. O. May 11, 1942, No. 6325. [Class 42 (ii)] In the production of felt, wool laps with interleaved sheetings are passed through a succession of co-operating flat hardening machines, H<SP>1</SP>, H<SP>2</SP> in their path from the supply lap stand a to the receiving lap stand a<SP>6</SP>. The flat hardening machines are so spaced or separated that the mechanically actuated oscillating plates h<SP>1</SP>, h<SP>2</SP> of a hardening machine act upon a surface of the felt out of phase with the surface acted upon by the previous hardening machine. Each succeeding hardening machine may exercise a more severe oscillating or hardening treatment upon the felt than the preceeding machine. The wool laps are wetted or steamed in known manner.
