550,314. Magnetic compasses. JONSSON, A. April 22, 1942, No. 5415. [Class 97 (ii)] The liquid-filled box of a magnetic compass is formed internally with thin-walled indentations 18, Fig. 3, open to the air, or with tubes 17, Fig. 2, of celluloid or other suitable material filled with air or other gas so as to yield under pressure variations due to temperature changes, the indentations or tubes having longitudinal edges arranged parallel to the north-south line. The indentations or tubes are arranged on either side of the compass needle so as to serve as stops.
