Abstract

549,978. Type-printing telegraphy. CREED & CO., Ltd., THOMPSON, A. E., and SALMON, R. D. June 13, 1941, No. 7495. [Class 40 (iii)] In a teleprinter transmitter, a key bar is selected by the lateral movement of a chariot and operated by its depression, thus enabling persons wearing thick gloves or untrained persons to use the transmitter. The combination bars 2 are operated by the keybars 1 in the usual manner, the keybar being selected by moving the chariot 6 laterally until the desired character on cylinder 9 shows through the cursor 8. The handle 5 is then depressed, the extension 3 operating the selected keybar. When the figure or letter shift key is selected, extrusion 14a or 14b engages a lever 12a or 12b to operate a ratchet 10a or 10b to rotate the cylinder 9 so as to bring figures or letters into view behind the cursor 8.
