Abstract
549,757. Percussive rock drilling tools. INGERSOLL-RAND CO. Dec. 15, 1941, No. 16167. Convention date, Dec. 21, 1940. [Class 124] In a percussive rock drilling tool in which a'cutter 22 is provided with one or more radial tangs 25 to extend into one or more slots 29 in a drill rod or holder 21, the end of each tang having an integral raised portion 31 to seat against the bottom of the slot for upsetting the end of the tang and forcing the sides of the tang into engagement with the sides of the slot when the tang is driven into the slot, a flat seating surface 26 is provided on the cutter to engage the flat end surface 27 of the holder 21 and so limit the degree of upsetting of the tang. The tangs may be of greater height than the depth of the slots, the raised portions 31 may comprise attenuated longitudinal extensions of the tangs, and the bottoms of the slots may have rounded corners 30. The raised portions 31 may be defined by concave or flat side surfaces 33, or by a convex end surface of the tang.
