No. 5567 [Class 6 (iii)] [Also in Group XXX] A mower and an elevator for collecting the cut crop are attached to the same chassis, which is mounted on two travelling wheels only, means being provided for preventing the cutter bar straining back and for keeping the elevator and the cutter bar at the correct distance apart. As shown, the chassis is supported upon large and smaller wheels 6, 8. Frame members 24, 25 at the sides of the elevator are connected by a transverse rod 26 and bearing brackets 27 on the members 25 are pivoted on a shaft 28 supported by uprights 29 rearwards of the axes 7, 9 of the wheels so that the mower and elevator are substantially counterbalanced and the elevator can be swung into a substantially horizontal position for transport or storage. In the operative position, a plate 32, secured to a cross brace 31 on the elevator, is secured by a bolt 34 to the chassis and a plate 47 hinged to the cutter bar 43 rests upon the lip of the elevator trough 10. A channel bar 48, hinged to a channel iron 49 on the chassis, is connected by a link 50 to the cutter bar to prevent the latter straining back. Alternatively, the plate 32 is dispensed with and the bar 48 is hinged to the cutter bar 'and extends between rollers 62, Fig. 3, on a bracket 60 secured to a cross member 61 on the trough 10. The elevator comprises spaced tines 15 on bars 14 secured to endless chains 16 passing over sprocket wheels 17, 18, 19. The shafts of the wheels 17, 19 are.carried by frame members 21, 23. The shaft 37 of the wheels 18 is connected with radius rods 35 adjustably connected to U brackets 35a pivoted on a shaft 35b mounted on the members 23. Downward movement of the wheels 18 is limited by eyes 38 on the shaft 37 cooperating with stops 44, arranged at opposite sides of the cutter bar, to enable the tines to run over, or in advance of, the knife, springs 41, arranged between guides 40 on the members 25 and adjustable sleeves 42 on rods 39 engaging the eyes 38, acting to reduce shock.
