Abstract
548,222. Moulding dress forms ; lay figures etc.; resin compositions; fabrics, coated ; proofing permeable materials. BECKWITH MANUFACTURING CO. Oct. 10, 1940, Nos. 15116 and 15117. Convention dates, Nov. 13, 1939 and May 20, 1940. [Classes 22 and 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups VIII and XIV] A process for making dress forms from a living model comprises providing the model with a protective vest, assembling upon the vest and moulding to the contours of the model stretchable thermoplastic sheet material having a fabric base, the material being in the heated plastic condition, and allowing the material to cool and harden, whereupon the form is removed from the model. The material may be applied in overlapping sections, which unite at their edges, and may be removed, after hardening, by cutting, as along the line A, Fig. 3, the two sections thus formed being fastened by a slide fastener, or by adhesive tape or by heated strips 17 of the material, and the completed form being mounted on a stand. The fabric base of the stretchable thermoplastic sheet material may be flannel, felted cloth or a tubular knit fabric, and this base may be spread with a composition comprising vegetable wax, beeswax, rubber and resin ; in an example, a flattened tubular knitted fabric is impregnated and coated on both sides by drawing it through a molten bath comprising Candelilla wax, beeswax, rubber, resin or rosin or both (the resin may be polysterene, polyvinyl acetate, or polybutyl methacrylate); and a pigment such as oxide of zinc, titanium or iron. This composition softens between 125‹F. and 150‹F. and hardens between 135 ‹F. and 100‹F., and is " pinnable and self-healing. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises the use as coating material of a composition which softens between 175‹F. and 180 ‹F. and hardens between 175‹F. and 100‹F. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
