Abstract

547,802. Carbylamines. DREYFUS. H. March 10, 1941, No. 3205. [Class 2 (iii)] A long chain aliphatic compound containing at least 10 carbon atoms and an amino, carboxyamide or hydrazine group is converted into a carbylamine by reacting with a highly halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon containing three or four halogen atoms attached to a single carbon atom and a caustic alkali. Hydroxy, carboxy, ether and carboxyester groups may also be present. In an example, stearylamine is reacted with chloroform in the presence of potassium hydroxide and methylalcohol. The use of carbon tetrabromide, bromo form, carbontetrabromide iodoform and halogenated ethanes is mentioned.
