Abstract

547,043. Catalytic treatment of hydrocarbons. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. Feb. 10, 1941, Nos. 1738 and 1739. Convention dates, Dec. 5. 1939 and Dec. 16, 1939. [Classes 1 (i) and 32] In the treatment of hydrocarbon vapours with supended catalysts, the catalyst after the treatment has taken place and either before or after its removal from the reaction products is subjected to further treatment at a higher temperature in order to remove absorbed or occluded hydrocarbons. In Fig. 1, oil vaporized in 5 is mixed with catalyst by injector 12 and treated at cracking temperature in reactor 17. The catalyst is separated from the reaction products in cyclone 19 mixed with steam or inert gas at 825-900‹F. in injector 32, and passed through coil 37 heated to 1000‹F. The treated catalyst is separated in cyclone 44, mixed with steam from line 50 and injected into separator 52 from which it is returned to hopper 63 for re-use. The hydrocarbon vapours recovered from the catalyst are added to the main current of reaction products and passed to fractionating column 21, from which a heavy fraction is returned by line 48 to the separator. In a second form of the invention (not shown) the reaction product from the first converter carrying the catalyst in suspension is passed through a second converter comprising a coil heated to 1000‹F., and the catalyst is subsequently separated. The gaseous products are passed to a fractionating column from which the bottom fraction is returned to the second reactor.
