Abstract

544,490. Food for animals. NATIONAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. Oct..11, 1940, No. 15146. Convention date, Oct. 14, 1939. [Class 5 (ii)] [Also in Group VI] An animal feed supplement of more than 30,000 vitamin A units per gram comprises an emulsion of molasses of sp. gr. 43-45‹Be with a fat-soluble vitamin concentrate prepared by saponifying a vitamin-containing oil and recovering the unsaponifiable portion. The molasses may be blackstrap, invert or beet. Water-soluble vitamins, e.g. C, B1, B6 and G, and other constituents of the vitamin B complex such as nicotinic acid, filtrate factor and Factor II may be added to the molasses or to the emulsion. The emulsion is added to poultry and cattle feeds such as spent yeast, mashes or meals. Specifications 500,770 and 533,323 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 contains also the following subject-matter: The molasses may have a specific gravity other than between 43 and 45‹Be. The vitamin-containing substance may be cod, tuna, halibut or swordfish liver oil, oil fortified with vitamin A or D or both, a fat-soluble vitamin concentrate in the alcohol or ester form, an irradiated sterol and other artificially produced form of vitamin D, oil containing provitamin A or vitamin E, vitamin K, relatively pure vitamin A or D, irradiated ergosterol, or irradiated cholesterol. The emulsions may be diluted with milk or water. Four examples are: (1) 10 parts of an oil containing 110,000 A units per gram and 8,400 D units per gram are emulsified with 50 parts of molasses, and 10 parts of the emulsion are added to 25 parts of dried spent yeast, (2) 16 parts of a fortified cod liver oil containing 3,000 A units per gram and 400 D units per gram are emulsified with 173 parts of cane blackstrap molasses, and to the emulsion are added 173 parts of invert molasses and 38 parts of water, (3) 4.5 parts of cod liver oil containing 1,630 A units per gram and 125 D units per gram are emulsified with 40.5 parts of blackstrap molasses, (4) 1.5 parts of a fortified cod liver oil containing 300 A units per gram and 400 D units per gram are emulsified with 36 parts of molasses, and the emulsion is homogenised at room temperature and "1,000 1bs." pressure. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
