[Class 42 (i)] A garment or a part thereof is drawn over a deflated bag 39 secured on the outlet of a blower 8 which houses an impeller driven by a motor 5 and receives heated air through a chamber arranged on the other side and containing a bent steam pipe with fins. The blower delivers into a perforated tube 24 closed at the end and extending into the bag, and a perforated steam supply tube fed with steam from a pipe 29, and a heating tube fed by a pipe 21, for the passage of steam, extend into the tube 24 and are connected with a steam separator 20 supplied by a pipe 19. After applying the garment or a part thereof such as a sleeve over the deflated bag, steam is introduced to the apertured tube through the pipe 29 by the opening of a valve 30 by connections to a pedal 32, whereby the bag is first inflated to fill the garment or the part and continually escapes through the bag and garment to effect steaming and softening. Steam is then shut off by closing the valve 30 and a handle 36 is operated to open a flap valve controlling the outlet of the blower and to close a circuit to the motor 5 whereby the blower forces heated air into the apertured tube 24 to maintain the bag extended and enable hot air to pass through the bag and garment for drying. The outlet of the blower may be fitted with a telescopic or other sleeve 40 which may be slidden up against the end of a garment sleeve on the bag to prevent ballooning of this end of the bag and consequent flaring of the sleeve end.
