Abstract

543,477. Electric toasters. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 6, 1941, No. 3085. Convention date, March 6, 1940. [Class 39 (iii)] Heating elements 3, each on one side of a mica sheet 4, are arranged in pairs facing inwardly, to form two toasting compartments. The elements 3 are supported by horizontal members 6 connecting the end plates 1. Bread-supporting trays 11 are connected at their ends by inverted V-shaped hangers 12 which are carried by a shaft 13 extending horizontally through the space between the compartments and projecting through slots in the end plates 1. Rollers 15 are provided at the ends of the shaft. A shaft 16 is mounted for rotation in the end plates 1, and carries a crank 18 at each end, an operating lever 22 at one end, and cam 23 at the other end. The cam actuates a resilient switch blade to close the heating circuit when the lever 22 is horizontal. The cranks 18 are connected by links 28 to the shaft 13 so that the movement of the lever 22 to horizontal also lowers the supporting trays 11.
