Abstract
542,587. Soundproof rooms. TOMINAGA, M. July 19, 1940, No. 11891. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1939. [Class 20 (ii)] Sounds coming from a studio, engine trial room and like buildings, are arrested by disposing in the doorways or ventilator openings, bodies having curvilinear surfaces of circular, elliptic, parabolic, or higher degree curves which form foci, and placing on either side of such bodies curved walls of similar curvature parallel therewith, and at their ends sound absorbing cupolas. A cylinder A of circular or other section covered with sound deadening material 3, such as deer-hair plates, is disposed in the entrance 4 to a studio 1, and curved walls 2 are placed on each side of it, concentric therewith and also covered with sound-deadening material, the sound waves being deadened by repeated re- Sections from the walls. The upper end of the cylinder 2 is formed as a cupola E. For a ventilator as shown at the upper part of Fig. 2, both ends may be of cupola shape. The section of the body may be elliptical, parabolic or other higher foci producing curves.
