Abstract
541,663. Vitamins. ATLANTIC COAST FISHERIES CO. June 4, 1940, No. 9761. Convention date, June 17, 1939. [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group VI] In the production of vitamin preparations in the form of beadlets or moulded shapes as described in Specifications 489,970 and 490,001 in which the vitamin-containing liquid is dispersed in a solid matrix of a substance such as gelatin with or without a plastifier, honey, molasses or other invert sugar is used as the plastifier. The vitamin material containing vitamin A or D with or without other vitamins such as a fish liver oil or concentrate, is dispersed in an aqueous gelatin, pectin or like solution which is then solidified in the desired form by dispersion in an oil to form beadlets or by pouring into greased moulds of the desired shape. The products are freed from adherent oil by washing with a solvent such as isopropyl alcohol or petroleum ether. When it is desired to obtain transparent products, a substance of high refractive index may be incorporated in the vitamin concentrate. Examples are given of various proportions of gelatin, water, fish liver oil and honey or molasses.
