Abstract
541,124. Spring mounting. LEYLAND MOTORS, Ltd., and SPURRIER, H. June 21, 1940. No. 10711. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii)] A pivot connecting the medial point of an inverted semi-elliptic spring, bearing on two rear axles, to a vehicle frame comprises a rubber &c. lining 7 secured to an outer sleeve 9 and an inner sleeve 8. The sleeve 8 is mounted non-rotatably by dogs 11 on a pivot 4 fixed to a bracket 1 supporting the vehicle frame 2, the two brackets being braced apart by a hollow cross-member 3. The sleeve 9 is a press fit in a housing 5 carrying the spring 6, and both sleeve 9 and housmg 5 have a lateral play, allowed by distortion of the lining 7, as far as is permitted by end rings 13, 14 of which the latter is held non-rotatably on the pivot 4 by a key 15. A cap 12 screws up the pivot 4 to tighten the sleeve 8 in place.
