539,785. Viscose sponges. SPONCEL, Ltd., and BARKER, C. V. Feb. 19, 1940, No. 3114. [Class 2 (ii)] An artificial sponge, made from a cellulose derivative such as viscose, is subjected to heat and pressure ; this causes a considerable decrease in its thickness without increase in its surface dimensions, but it will swell to its normal thickness when immersed in water. The pressure employed may be 100 lb. per square inch and the temperature may be 90‹ C.
