Abstract

539,492. Radio-gramophones. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. March 11, 1940, No. 4565. Convention date, March 14, 1939. [Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group <SP>XXXVIII]</SP> The casing 10, Fig. 1 of a radio-gramophone is provided with a slit 14 near one side for the insertion of a sound record disc 15, which is then clamped to a vertical turntable on an horizontal axis by means of an external side knob 16, part of the disc remaining outside the casing. The knob 16 is attached to two cylindrical bushes 17, 18, Fig. 2, and is urged outwards by a spring 37. When a record disc 14 has been inserted as shown between the turntable 29 and the knob device, the knob 16 is pressed in. Inward pressure is applied through spring 20 to thimble 19 which pushes rod 22 inwards. The conical head 26 of the pin 22 seats itself in the conical recess 27 in the turntable spindle 28, and a conical collar 31 loosely mounted on the pin 22 against a spring 32 grips the periphery of the central hole 30 of the record disc and centres the disc relatively to the spindle. The pin 22 is guided in a conical collar 25 which is normally seated in a conical seat on a sleeve 23. When the spring 32 is compressed by the engagement of the conical shoulder 31 with the record and the continued inward movement of the pin 22, the loose fit between the pin and the thimble 19 and between the collar 26 and its seat allow the lateral deflection of the pin necessary to centre the record. This arrangement does not need accurate alignment of the knob 16 with the spindle 28. When the knob has been pushed in, it is turned slightly to engage a bayonet joint 36 to retain the knob in the inward position gripping the record for playing.
