Abstract

538,950. Aircraft cabins. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., NIXON, F., and MARPLES, E. I. B. Jan. 20, 1940, No. 1258. [Class 4] A pressure cabin having an outlet valve controlled by a pressure-responsive device within the cabin in order to maintain a constant pressure above a pre-determined minimum, has means for maintaining a constant or controlled flow of air from a blower driven from a separate engine, said means acting on the throttle of the engine or the intake of the blower. In one form an outlet valve 13 on the cabin 10 is controlled by a capsule 11 and air is supplied to the cabin by a blower 16 driven by an engine 15 which is supercharged by an additional blower 25 taking air from the cabin. The output conduit 17 of the blower 16 has a restricted passage 18 and the pressure drop across this passage is utilized to control a throttle valve 24 in the engine intake. Alternatively or in addition the input to the blower 16 may be controlled by a valve 29 actuated by a capsule 27 subjected on one side to the pressure in the intake conduit of the blower. In another modification the pressure drop across the passage 18 controls the valve in the intake of the blower 16. In another modification wherein there is a varying consumption of air in the cabin a capsule subjected to the difference of pressure between the cabin and the delivery conduit of the blower actuates a throttle valve in the engine intake which is branched off the blower conduit. In this case a displacement blower may be used, but if a centrifugal blower be used its intake should also be controlled.
