Abstract
538,206. Valve modulating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES and CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 9, 1940, No. 2537. Convention date, Feb. 14, 1939. [Class 40 (v)] An arrangement for modulating an ultra short wave by a wide frequency band comprises a balanced amplifier with the carrier input applied between the cathodes and the modulating frequencies to the grids in parallel. The valve inter-electrode capacities are neutralized to obtain a low effective capacity in the plate circuit. Fig. 1 shows a push-pull amplifier driven from the cathode circuit in which a grid impedance Z4 neutralizes the valve inter-electrode capacities. Fig. 4 shows a transmitter in which the grid impedance consists of a quarter wave line 13 terminated in a variable inductance 12 and arranged to reduce the capacitance to ground of the circuit. The drive is effected over a quarter wave line 2, 21 and the impedance of the input circuit is adjusted by varying the surge impedance of the line by the condenser 6 and by the coupling resistances 3, 3<SP>1</SP>. The heating current for the driven stage is fed through conductors arranged within the transmission lines which may be extended through another quarter wave line 5, 5<SP>1</SP> which form a choke for high frequency. Modulation is applied between the grids and earth across resistance 11 and to the midpoint of inductance 12, Fig. 4, or to the midpoint of inductance Z4, Fig. 1.
