Abstract

537,787. Mattress handles. HEAL, R. G., and STAPLES & CO., Ltd. Jan. 4, 1940, No. 275. [Class 52 (iv)] A mattress having a filling of upright helical springs is provided with a handle in the form of a loop, one stretch of the loop extending in an axial direction through the interior of one of the helical springs in the margin of the mattress, and another part of the loop (or a part secured thereto) being arranged to extend through an aperture or apertures in the border, of the mattress. As shown, wherein marginal rows of springs 10 are secured to rectangular frames 12, 14, the handle or loop 20 encircles the rectangular frames in addition to passing through the interior of one of the springs, and then passes through eyelets 21 in the side wall 19. A metal clip 22 secures the ends of the cord forming the loop. Fabric 23 prevents fraying of the loop. Instead of the cord shown, strip material passing through slit-like eyelets may be used. The loop 20 may be arranged wholly within the mattress, and a lifting tab secured to the loop may extend through an eyelet in the side wall of the mattress.
