Abstract

537,234. Bomb-dropging apparatus. GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and LEATHER, G. B. Dec. 11, 1939, No. 31963. [Class 9 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] A closure 7 for the stowage compartment 5 for a retractable undercarriage, bomb racks &c. in an aircraft is swingable about a pivot 8 within the aircraft structure so that the closure is within the structure when the compartment is in a fully open condition whereas it is able in the closed condition to seal the compartment effectively. The closure is suspended from laterally spaced pivots 8 by brackets 9 and is preferably operated by a remotely controllable jack 10 the plunger 12 of which is pivoted to an arm of one of the brackets 9. In the open condition, part of the closure 7<SP>1</SP> may be arranged to project below the aircraft so that the jack action is assisted in closure by the airflow over the skin 6. The pivot 8 may be arranged longitudinally to the structure so that the closure swings transversely thereto. The closure may be of interrupted drum form so as to provide a number of alternate openings and closed spaces. Specification 576,824, [Group XXXIII], is referred to.
