536,348. Notching machine for tent-pegs. ERCOLANI, L. B. Feb. 7, 1940, No. 2365. [Class 145 (i)] A machine for notching tent-pegs comprises a rotary table 20, the upper surface of which is provided with devices 37, 38, 39 which support the pegs in a radial arrangement with the ends to be notched overhanging the table. They are thus carried through a working position in which a rotary cutter 50 notches the underface while steadying pressure is applied to the upper side by a pneumatic-tyred wheel 71 carried by a pivoted and weighted support 68. The pegs are subsequently removed from the table by an ejector device comprising inclined members 86, 87. The cutter comprises a set of four blades 51, Figs. 10 and 11, having inclined cutting edges and mounted in close contact with a circular saw 53. The machine may include camoperated bevelling chisels for chamfering the edges of the notched part of the pegs. The table and cutter are driven by separate motors through belt and pulley mechanism.
