Abstract
536,122. Electric signalling systems. GENT & CO., Ltd., and REMINGTON, C. Feb. 15, 1940, No. 2898. Addition to 493,203. [Class 40 (i)] [Also in Group XXXIX] The system of the parent Specification wherein liquid-level indications are transmitted as audible signals over a telephone line is modified by making the signalling circuits dependent on contacts closed by the liquid at predetermined levels. As in the prior arrangement, when an enquiry call is made, a vibrating relay causes the handset to be lifted and maintains the circuits in signalling condition for a given time. In one arrangement, Fig. 1 (not shown), a pair of relays are controlled respectively by high level and low level contacts, each of which may comprise two strips of stainless steel clamped to an insulator. Different signals, for example, continuous buzzer, intermittent buzzer, bell, are connected up according as the liquid level is below the lower contacts, above the.lower but below the higher contacts or above the higher contacts. In a second arrangement, Fig. 2, four contacts E1-4 at various levels are connected to corresponding sluggish relays A1-4 which are arranged to energize and subsequently release in sequence, and a pair of bells B1, 2 are given an impulse alternately as each relay releases, so that the enquirer hears a number of strokes equal to the number of contacts submerged. The cycle of operations is repeated after a delay imposed by the energization and release of two sluggish relays R1, 2 aslong as the vibrating relay 6 continues to operate.
