Abstract
535,835. Ambulance stretchers. WILLIAMS, H. Dec. 1, 1939, No. 31218. [Class 108 (i)] A stretcher is provided with a rigid bed and with guide ledges whereby it may slidably engage a ladder or like guideway. It may also have means for supporting it on a rope runway and be provided with projections for supporting a person when the stretcher is in an inclined position. The stretcher shown comprises side bars 1 and a wooden or metal bed 2. A transverse bar 5 having its ends bent around the bars 1 so as to be slidable longitudinally of the stretcher carries a saddle 8 adapted to be positioned between the patient's legs. The bar 5 is secured in adjusted position by engagement of pins. The saddle may instead be adjusted by screw-and-nut means. A similarly arranged bar 5a is provided with projections 11 to engage beneath the armpits. A footrest 4 has a recess 12 to receive the legs when the rest is not required. Loops 13 for straps for further securing the person may be provided. A protecting frame or hoop 16 may be secured to the head or both ends of the stretcher. The stretcher may be slid down a ladder by means of a cord attached to an eye 15, the side members 1 acting as guides with or without a hinged member arranged to pass around the back of the ladder. The runway may instead comprise a rope passed through eyes mounted on the centre of the hoops 16.
