Abstract

535,655. Pressure-regulating valves. HANSON, T. A., and BRYAN DONKIN CO., Ltd. Sept. 13, 1939, No. 25735. [Class 135] A device for automatically changing the loading on a gas governor of the type in which a diaphragm, bell or piston actuates a valve or valves, comprises means for regulating the relationship of the governor valve or valves to the diaphragm, the loading on the diaphragm being progressively increased or decreased by the altered relationship. A cam a, driven by clockwork, activates a lever b pivoted at c. A wedge d suspended from the free end of the lever passes between two arms e<SP>1</SP>, f<SP>1</SP> of bellcrank levers having a common pivot g, so that downward movement of the wedge separates the arms e<SP>1</SP>, f against the action of a spring x. The arm e is connected by a rod g' to the closure element of a valve h, the supply of gas to the diaphragm l thus being dependent on the movement of the cam a. The arm f is connected by a rod m to a cone n carrying weights in the form of spaced discs o. When the diaphragm is in its lowest position the weights are all supported on a platform p, but as it rises the weights are taken up one by one. In a modification the discs o are connected together for relative movement by shouldered screws. The cam a is made up of discs mounted on a holder and bent to form a continuous helical groove, each disc acting as a separate cam member one for each day of the week. The cam receives axial movement by engaging a fixed pin s, to bring the daily cam portions under the lever b.
