[Class 15 (ii)] The fastness to light of dyeings or prints obtained with the use of water-soluble dvestuffs and subjected to an after-treatment in a separate bath with an aqueous solution of a cation-active compound containing at least one basic nitrogen atom and at least one aliphatic or cycloaliphatic residue having at least 10 carbon atoms, is improved by treatment. with an aqueous solution of a copper compound simultaneously with or subsequently to such after-treatment. Specified cation-active compounds are those described in Specifications 339.962, [Class 15 (ii)], 366,918, 441,767, 443,588, 464,921 and 496,611. Specified copper compounds used are cupric sulphate, nitrate, chloride, formate, and acetate. In examples, (1) cotton sateen, dyed with Direct fast scarlet 8BS, is treated for ¢ hour in an aqueous solution at 30‹ C. containing 4-stearoylaminobenzene-trimethylammonium methosulphate and copper sulphate, squeezed and dried ; (2) cotton yarn, dyed with Direct brown M, is treated for 20 minutes in an aqueous solution at 35‹ C. containing u-heptadecyl-N:N-dimethylbenzimidazolium chloride and copper sulphate and centrifuged ; dyeings with Cotton yellow CH, Cuproanil brown R, Direct fast scarlet B, Direct violet 2B, Direct blue GW, Direct sky blue, green shade, Direct copper blue BR, Direct fast black B, Chlorantine fast brown BRLL, Chlorantine fast grey BLL or Chlorantine fast black L may be treated similarlv. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also (a) the use in place of, the above cation-active compounds, of similar compounds described in Specifications 423,864, 423,933, 435,388 and U.S.A. Specification 2,077,831, (b) the similar use of condensation products of formaldehyde with certain compounds containing nitrogen (subject-matter of Specification 13276/40). This. subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
