Abstract
534,310. Glass. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., FRANCIS, V. J., and KETTLEWELL, E. Jan. 2, 1940, Nos. 105 and 3450. [Class 56] [Also in Group XXXVI] In strip-sealing a conductor 4, through the quartz wall 3 of a high pressure electric discharge device, the shrinkage-gap 5 between metal and quartz is brought into a position, as shown in Fig. 2 of Provisional Specification 105/40 where it is subject to opposed pressures and thus does not tend to split. In the construction shown in the Figure of Provisional Specification 3450/40, a shrinkage-gap 9 between quartz of the envelope 11 and quartz of the strip-seal 2 is located so that the narrow edge of the envelope is subject to opposed pressures.
