Abstract
534,204. Apparatus for viewing and projecting photographs. RAUCH, C. July 11, 1938, No. 20517. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Jan. 11, 1939.] [Class 97 (i)] Apparatus for viewing nonrelated pictures on strip material, especially colour photographs, and of the kind using a magnifying lens, is provided with a protective container for the strip which can be inserted into and removed from the apparatus together with the strip. The strip may be wound on a spool in the container. A second container to take up the viewed strip may be provided, but a take-up spool only may be used, in which case the strip is wound back into the supply container after viewing. If no spools are used, the strip is fed by friction or toothed wheels. A support for the apparatus is provided, which permits it to be set at any viewing angle. The apparatus may be fitted on the lens side with a tube terminating in a small projection screen; and where projection on to a large screen is desired, it may be supported on a rigid stand and fitted with a projection lamp housing. As shown in Fig. 1, the apparatus comprises a front casing 1 with recesses 6, 7 for the supply container 10 and the take-up container or spool, and a recess in front of the viewing window 13 to receive an adjustable lens tube 5 ; and a rear casing 2 which may be latched to the front casing and has an exchangeable condenser lens 21 which may diffuse or colour the light incident on the strip a. For transparencies, a lamp housing 29 may be fitted to the casing 2 ; and for opaque pictures, an opening for admitting light to the picture may be provided between the picture and the lens 3. The internal curved surface of the container 10 is recessed to prevent contact of the picture portion of the strip therewith and has edge guides to prevent the strip from shifting laterally. The strip emerges from the container through a slot, and passes between guides formed on the lens 21. When spools 8, 9 are used, they are connected by pin and longitudinal slot means to withdrawable spindles operated by external knobs. These spindles and the lens tube 5 can be pushed completely into the casing 1 when the apparatus is not in use. Space for spare strips may be provided in the casing. The apparatus may be mounted on a stand 28, Fig. 6, having a flexible pillar 27 provided with bows 23, 24 adapted to embrace a cylindrical part of the casing so that the apparatus may be rotated within the closed bows. A rigid stand to which the apparatus may be secured in similar manner is provided for use when the pictures are to be projected ; and in this case the lamp housing 29 is replaced by a housing 36, Fig. 4, containing a strong lamp, a reflector 33, a heat baffle 37 and a condenser 34, 35.
