Abstract

533,201. Mouldings. TINNERMAN. A. H. Oct. 18, 1939, No. 28118. [Class 20 (iv)] [Also in Group XXV] Means for securing a moulding &c, to a support or structure comprises a retainer having a body portion 21 that is sprung into frictional locking engagement with the moulding A and a shank 22 that passes through a slot E in the structure D for engagement with a cambered spring fastener 6 with notched and bent up tongues 2 that engage the edges of the shank. The fastener is driven down flat on to the surface D by a tool engaging the cambered side strips 5. The edges 8. 9 then bite into the sides of the shank 22. In a modification, Fig. 6, designed to permit easy removal of the fastening the fastener has an elliptical hole and the shank 22 engages across the minor axis in the securing position. Rotation of the fastener through 90 degrees brings the major axis parallel to the shank and frees the fastening. In a further modification the retainer is 'made from spring wire bent into the shape shown in Fig. 9. The part 33, 34 affording the friction grip on the moulding and the shank 35 passing through a hole to receive the fastener. In a further modification the retainer is formed from a T-shaped blank. In the form shown in Fig. 17 the moulding can be snapped over the sides 53, 54 of the retainer either before or after this has been secured to the structure. The fastenings may be used in automobile bodies, buildings, gas or electric ranges, partitions, door and window frames, refrigerator cabinets &c. and the surfaces D may be of metal, fibre board, glass, vitreous coated sheets, or hardened plastic material.
