Abstract

532,254. Mixing-apparatus. CROWN CORK & SEAL CO., Inc. July 19, 1939, Nos. 20990 and 20991. Convention dates, July 29, 1938, and Feb. 1, 1939. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Jan. 30, 1940.] [Class 86] A machine for mixing the contents of bottles or other containers comprises a rotary table on which are mounted a number of container supports which are operated to tilt the containers during one part of the table movement and to spin them about their longitudinal axes during another. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2: the bottles are fed by a conveyer 13 and dial 14 to the holders which comprise a platform 20 carried on a shank 21 mounted on a stub shaft 22 carried in a housing 23 mounted on a standard on the rotary table 11. The shank 21 is fitted with a spring-influenced rod 31 carrying an adjustable clamping arm 30 and fitted with a roller 35 which engages a cam track 36 at the feeding and discharge stations. The standard 24 encloses a shaft fitted with a pinion 26 which engages teeth on a fixed gear 57 and operates the stub shafts 22 through bevel gear; by these means the bottles are tilted end over end. The shank 21 is also fitted with an extension 46 fitted with a roller 44 which engages a cam track 48 to maintain the bottles vertical at the feeding and discharge stations, and also while they are being spun. For the latter purpose the bottles are supported on discs 40 housed within the platforms 20 and rotated by the engagement of rollers 42 with an endless band 52. In the machine shown, the bottles are spun and then turned end for end in which position the rollers 44 engage an inverted cam track 60; they are then turned again to upright position and discharged. In other forms the bottles are turned end over end before spinning by varying the disposition of the parts effecting these operations, the spinning being effected before the discharge station: an abutment is provided to stop their rotation: In a further modification the bottles are first inverted, and finally returned. To free the liquid initially from bubbles the bottles may be tapped by a spring-influenced pivoted member as they are fed from the crowning apparatus associated with the machine. Specification 532,255 is referred to.
