531,928. Road-traffic signals on vehicles; press button switches. SCHREUDER, B. Aug. 8, 1939, No. 22850. Convention date, Aug. 6, 1938. [Class 118 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A warning-device for use on motor vehicles, for giving either audible or visual signals, comprises an actuating device and a selector switch, the actuating device comprising a " rest contact " which is normally closed, and a "working contact " which is normally open, operation of the device either sounding a horn or changing the illumination of the headlamps according to the position of the selector switch. In the circuit shown in Fig. 1, the car battery 2 is connected by means of a press-button switch 3 and a selector 4 to the horn 1, the head 'lamps 5, and other lamps 6 of lower intensity than the lamps 5. With the selector 4 in the position shown, pressure on the switch 3 sounds the horn. In the other two positions of the selector, the horn is out of circuit and one set of lamps, either 5 or 6, is alight. Pressure on the switch 3 then causes one set of lamps to be extinguished and the other to be switched on to give a signal by change of illumination. An automatic switch may be included in the circuit of the lamps to cause the illumination to vary or flicker. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes a switch for use with the device, comprising a press-button 8, Fig. 3 (Cancelled), normally upheld by a spring 10. In this position, a contact disc 17 is pressed against a contact ring 14, the " rest contact," but pressure on the button 8 brings the disc 17 into contact with another ring 15, the " working control." The selector ring may be embodied in the switch and composed of a rotatable ring 21 of insulating material provided with contacts 22, 23 which make contact with strips 25 embedded in the circumference of the base of the switch. The ring 21 is turned to any of three positions to select the desired contact connections. The switch may be incorporated in the top of the steering column of the car, or operated by a push rod passing down through the steering column or by a Bowden cable. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
