Abstract

531,408. Detecting poisonous gases. RING- ROSE, H. T. July 21, 1939, No. 21165. [Class 1 (i)] Poisonous gases are detected by the formation of a smoke when a mixture of the contaminated air and ammonia is heated. The apparatus comprises a chimney 2 with glass tube 1 containing an electrically heated filament 13 which sets up a convection current, drawing in atmospheric air through a port 8 and ammonia through port 4, the ammonia being derived from a mass of absorbent material 7 impregnated with an ammonia-yielding substance.
