Abstract
531,342. Ornamenting. PLASTIC INLAYS, Inc. July 18, 1939, No. 20896. Convention date, July 30, 1938. [Class 93] In a method of inlaying articles of translucent or other material, such as clock dials, with a decorative substance, such as precious metal, the material is formed with a recess or with an aperture to receive the decorative substance, which is held in place by a relatively stiff member, the edges of which firmly engage the sides of the recess. In one arrangement, a strip 6 of base metal coated with precious metal is placed in a recess 5 in the translucent material 4, and is held in place by a second strip 8, which is force-fitted into the recess. The member 8 is preferably curved, and is flattened during application, so that its edges are forced into the sides of the recess. The strip 8 may be omitted, a single strip of material, coated with preciousmetal &c. and having substantial rigidity, being forced into the recess. Specification 472,522 is referred to.
